Event kids are ripping into this month’s Elwood community shred day. The October 19 event will help residents safely destroy personal documents _ thwarting crooks who use the information to steal money and set up bogus credit cards.
More than 19 tonnes of documents have been shredded and recycled into items such as pizza boxes and egg cartons since the initiative began five years ago.
Shred on Site owner – Andrew Vincent, who will have two shredding trucks to destroy documents, said even the smallest piece of personal information could be dangerous.
“Just throwing documents like financial statements and tax returns in the bin is so risky,” he said.
The shred day runs on Saturday October 19 from 10am-1pm outside Elwood Life Saving Club.
A recommended donation of $5 per box of documents will go to the club.
